Taiko (meaning ‘drum’ in Japanese) drumming is a traditional form of Japanese ensemble drumming. The performances can last between 5 and 25 minutes and typically follow a jo-ha-kyū (beginning, middle, end/rapid, sudden, urgent, and emergency) structure, which means the performance will speed up significantly towards the grand finale.

Always a spectacular performance, outside during winter it is definitely something to see.

Halving the time and doubling the capacity of the lift the new gondola has been a great enhancement for the Hirafu ski area.

Also new if the ‘Welcome Center’ located right next to the gondola which included a retail shop, ski ticket sales, ski rental, and a large restaurant and bar.

The following are some photos taken on the official opening day in December.

This is thanks to the 20cm of snow that hit the area in only 1 day – an ideal start.

Wasting no time some locals set out early the following morning to get a taste of what is to come, capturing it all on camera. The photos speak for themselves – some great powder turns were had.
